About the 41st Annual Festival of Lights

The Festival of Lights is one of the D.C. area's great community traditions. Beginning November 29th, the Festival features free performances nightly in the comfortable, state-of-the-art theater located in the Visitors' Center.

A different performing artist or group is showcased each night, including bell ensembles, choirs, orchestras, and more! Each performance is presented twice nightly.

The Visitors' Center of the Washington D.C. Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

    1. National Taiwan University Alumnus Chorus of the Greater DC

      Premier chorus of Alumni from the National Taiwan University. Well known in the greater Washington DC area. First time to present for the Festival of Lights.

      Formed in 2009, the National Taiwan University Alumni Chorus of the District of Columbia, Inc. (NTUAC-DC), is composed of area alumni from various universities in Taiwan who are passionate about choral singing. With a repertoire that spans across a wide variety of music genres and countries, our goal is to share the universal joy of choral music with audience from diverse communities in the Greater Washington D.C. area, and to enhance wide-reaching friendship through public concerts.

    1. Northern Lights Dance Orchestra

      Northern Lights Dance Orchestra formed by Jeannie Farnsworth. Members are associated with the Washington DC Temple Orchestra and are a regular at the Visitors’ Center.

    1. Suzuki Flutes Youth group

      Charlotte Day and the Flute Division of the Suzuki Association of the Greater Washington Area.  Many young flutists ranging in age from 4-18, will present a delightful concert of Christmas and traditional carols.

    1. Melinda Baird and Shaundra Culatta

      Melinda Baird on piano and Shaundra Culatta on violin will present a spiritual, uplifting program of Christmas classics.  An amazing performance by a very talented mother and daughter duo.

    2. First Presidency Christmas Message

      The First Presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints will deliver their annual Christmas message to the world.

    1. El Coro Latino

      A lively and enthusiastic rendition of Christmas music Latino style presented by members of the local community.

    1. Ramy Adly  and the Egyptian Oud Instrument

      Bringing a unique and vibrant sound to Christmas music, Ramy Adly hails from Egypt and is a master on an ancient musical instrument.  He teaches and performs all types of music and will share his compositions of Christmas music.

    1. Olney Concert Band

      This non-profit community-based concert band was formed in 1985.  It includes members from different counties, all of whom enjoy the thrill of making music together. They will be playing many seasonal favorites.

    1. Sforza Suzuki Strings Ensemble                   

      This talent youth group has more than 50 violinists, ages 3-7. They are thrilled to share their Christmas classics and new favorites

    1. Bells at Mount Vernon

      What could possibly sound more cheerful at Christmas time than a group of happy bell ringers? This group of musicians come from the Mount Vernon area and have a wonderful arrangement of Christmas classics.

    1. Washington DC Temple Choir

      A Festival of Lights tradition for many years, this group has performed throughout the area. Their program has inspirational Christmas songs and traditional carols.

    1. Jesse Holt - Male Vocalist

      Jesse Holt is new to the Festival of Lights this year. His mellow and magical voice will bring a feeling of cheer to the season.

    1. Six Degrees Singers                     

      A vibrant choir of young adult performers dedicated to making quality music.  Performing around the DC area in renaissance, world, folk and jazz styles.

    1. Madrigal Lords and Ladies of McDonough High School

      This prize-winning Chamber Choir has performed in many venues including The Kennedy Center. Enjoy these talented vocalists as they perform in the renaissance style.

    1. Harbor City Music Company

      Award-winning women’s chorus. They are known for their creative performances and unique song arrangements in four-part harmony.

    1. Harper Denhard and Jeff Hayes

      Harper Denhard, a female vocalist, and Jeff Hayes, piano accompanist, bring Christmas to heart with beautiful renditions of Christmas favorites. Harper has performed in the DC area for many years. This is a treat to have them at the Festival of Lights for the first time.

    1. Capital Carillon Bell Choir

      This advanced English handbell ensemble will educate, enlighten, and entertain you with their musical excellence through the art of ringing.

    1. Washington DC Temple Orchestra

      A Festival of Lights tradition for many years, enjoy their special rendition of favorite and new Christmas songs.

    1. The Young Columbians - Youth Singers

      40 energetic and very talented singers from ages 7-20 have performed on Broadway, The Kennedy Center, The White House and many other places on their mission to educate through the arts.

    1. The Pickwick Players, female acapella singers

      A double quartet of singers and actors who sing acapella in a variety of styles and with engaging readings and stories to enhance their music for the holiday season.

    1. Rockville Brass Band

      Holiday Festival of Brass by one of the oldest brass bands in the country. This award-winning band is dedicated to preserving the British brass band tradition while performing traditional and popular tunes.

    1. Capital Accord Chorus

      All women’s acapella group harmonize to bring you holiday favorites and some new ones too. They have performed for 23 years.

    1. Silent Night and Three Big Voices

      These talented musicians gather together to blend their voices in Christmas harmony. They have each performed throughout the DC area.

    1. Olney Big Band

      This award-winning group of musicians has performed throughout the world. Traditional Christmas music in swing, jazz, and dance beats.

      The spirit of Christmas, Polynesian style.  Join this festive night of dancing, and singing from different islands in the Pacific. This is the favorite of the season for young and old

    1. Cate Todd Musical Family

      The Todd Family – Harp, Piano, Violin, Cello, and Guitar.  Join us as we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ with a program of beloved Christmas carols.  The Todd Family will be performing on harp, piano, violin, cello, and guitar. Michael and Cate Todd and their children, who range in age from elementary school to college, are excited to perform together and use their music to bring “Joy to the World.”

      “Violinists Extraordinaire”!!! Jessica and Katelyn are talented young violinists who perform throughout the world. They are a special treat each year as they bring to life beautiful Christmas music.

      Accomplished violinist, Saralyn, husband Eric, and their 7 talented children will create an entertaining Bluegrass Christmas program using banjo, mandolin, guitar, fiddles, and bass.

      Winston’s mellow bass-baritone is the perfect foundation for Bernadette’s lovely lyrical soprano.  Together with their friends, they make for a memorable performance.

      These talented youths hail from their talented parents who have brought them up performing and enjoying beautiful music. They will perform memorable Christmas melodies.

      Chinese dancers bring lovely and entertaining flair to the holiday season.

      The Guzhang Academy brings a charming and fanciful sound to the music of the season as well as other delightful arrangements.

Go to templefestivaloflights2018.eventbrite.com to reserve tickets in advance. Tickets will also be available one hour before events at the Visitors’ Center. Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Individuals may pick up tickets for other members of their party.

While waiting for a performance to begin, you are welcome to enjoy the lights, Christmas trees, and international crèches.

Everything is free and open to the public. Tickets are not needed for the lights or crèche exhibits. 

Parking is limited due to construction. Overflow parking may be available at adjacent chapel at
10000 Stoneybrook Drive. Attendees are encouraged to take alternate forms of transportation,
including taxis or hired drivers from the Forest Glen Metro station.
